Mathematics

Our five year scheme of work enables and encourages mastery of Maths topics for all learners at Fairfield.  All faculty staff have been involved with the nationwide programme of Teaching for Mastery which is designed to share and deliver best practice from other schools and overseas.  This has led to a more sophisticated approach to problem solving, enabling students to draw upon a greater range of skills when faced with new challenges.  Students have the opportunity to flex those skills learned in national competitions run by the National Kingdom Mathematics Trust including the Junior Maths Challenge (JMC) and Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC) during their time at Fairfield.

Every student’s progress is tracked frequently to ensure that they are offered the right mix of challenge and support throughout both key stages and we ensure that their tier entry for GCSE Mathematics maximizes their potential.  Students follow the EDEXCEL course at GCSE and will sit either Foundation or Higher tier papers.
