Modern Foreign Languages

The philosophy of the MFL department at Fairfield is based on the belief that students should be able to communicate for a real purpose in their chosen foreign language. To this end, the department emphasises the development of practical skills in lessons, in an engaging and enjoyable way. We also encourage students to foster an understanding and appreciation of foreign cultures – whether it’s tasting food or trying salsa dancing! We also endeavour to offer experiences abroad where possible.

Students will have the opportunity to study either French or Spanish at Key Stage 3 and we expect the majority of our students to continue studying a foreign language at Key Stage 4.
